Lesia Mokrycke. Installation view. Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, 2009
Building on ideas surrounding scale and location, in Philadelphia I completed a series of three paintings and one sculpture that address the relationship between people and the city. This body of work includes Solace, Trepidation and Soliloquy and explores individuality within the context of the urban metropolis. The lone figure in Soliloquyreflects isolation and lack of individuality. This series aims to address the ironic circumstances of alienation and lack of social contact in an environment made up of nothing but people.
